Douglas Buchmayer is a partner in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office. He concentrates primarily in the areas of estate planning, estate litigation, and estate administration, specifically wills, powers of attorney, tax planning, trusts (testamentary, family, and Henson), trustee obligations, trust variations, business succession, ODSP planning, incapacity, guardianship, probate, intestate succession, passing accounts, estate accounting, estate transmissions, court appointments, estate mediation, dependants relief, will challenges, and insurance trust planning. General counsel for the Nunavut Trust Fund. He also has extensive experience in drafting and advising in relation to Aboriginal trusts pertaining to impact benefit agreements, land settlement claims, and collaboration agreements. Douglas has spoken at continuing legal education seminars and has appeared on radio and television to discuss estate planning issues. He has lectured in the area of estate administration at the University of Ottawa for law clerks and was a part-time Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Ottawa, in trust law.
