Jennifer Babe's practice emphasizes commercial law, focusing on secured transactions, the securing of sales and leases of equipment and vehicles, both wholesale and retail, and purchases of businesses. Focuses on issues for retail finance including consumer protection, privacy and Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation. Acts for borrowers and lenders in marginal situations and with respect to exercising their rights in insolvencies or customer default. Special expertise in laws of personal property federally and provincially, and has written and lectured frequently on this subject. Author of Sale of a Business, 12th edition, co-author of Creditors’ Remedies in Ontario, 3rd edition and other publications. Received the Law Society Medal in 2016. Presently serves on the Business Law Advisory and Burden Reduction Council to the Province of Ontario, chairing its commercial law working group. Fellow and former Regent of American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers. Organized two pro bono projects at Ryerson University to assist students with their legal issues. Former director of Metrolinx, Canadian Finance & Leasing Assoc. and YMCA Canada, and remains a volunteer for YMCA of Greater Toronto.
