John F. Grieve, QC, is an internationally-recognized insolvency and restructuring lawyer, advising major companies on complex commercial reorganizations. The immediate past Chair of the Firm’s Global Insolvency and Restructuring Group, (from 2007 to 2017), he has a wealth of experience in regional, national and international insolvencies and restructuring. Over his 36 years as insolvency counsel John has gained the knowledge and the reputation, both within the industry and with Canadian Insolvency courts, to shepherd all manner of debtor and creditor mandates. John has acted as debtor’s counsel in the reorganizations of Tervita Corporation, Bear Mountain, Pope and Talbot, Adanac Molybdenum, 360 networks, St. Eugene's Mission, Napier Environmental Technologies and Quark Ventures Inc. He has acted as lead counsel for a major creditor and as counsel for the receiver or monitor in numerous cases in including Ilta Grain Inc., Eron Mortgage Corporation, Angiotech, and Catalyst. He has recently been acting as representative counsel for 3,700 investors in CCAA of League Investments and acted for 2,000 investors in the Avia West CCAA. John is a member of the International Insolvency Association and the Insolvency Association of Canada.
On December 14, 2016, Tervita Corporation (“Tervita”), a leading environmental solutions provider, implemented its court-approved plan of arrangement under the Canada Business Corporations Act (the “Plan”).
Pacific West Commercial Corporation (Pacific West), an affiliate of Vancouver-based Stern Partners Inc. (Stern Partners), completed the acquisition of the business and assets of Comark Inc. (Comark). Financial terms were undisclosed.
