One of Canada’s preeminent litigators in her field, Mary M. Thomson serves as head of Gowling WLG’s Canada-wide litigation and dispute resolution practice. Over the past three and a half decades, Mary has represented clients in high-profile class actions, mass tort litigation and public inquiries involving product liability, health law, data and privacy law, as well as indigenous claims. She manages complex litigation, combining substantial courtroom experience with the ability to direct high-functioning legal teams. She works closely with clients in the design and implementation of litigation strategy while developing communication strategies for clients in the public eye. Mary is repeatedly singled out as a top legal practitioner by leading legal directories. In 2013, she was awarded the prestigious Lexpert Zenith Award for her extraordinary leadership in the legal profession. Additionally, Mary has taught both trial advocacy and negotiation theory throughout her career and served as an Adjunct Professor in the graduate department of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto for more than a decade. In June 2018, Mary was made a Lieutenant in the Royal Victorian Order for work with Outward Bound International.
