Melanie Reist has practised employment law for more than 30 years, acting for employees and employers, and has established herself as no-nonsense advocate who provides exceptional service. She has appeared before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Divisional Court, Court of Appeal, the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal, and the Ontario Labour Board. Melanie is frequently retained to conduct workplace investigations. Melanie is also an effective mediator who can assist parties solving workplace conflicts, as well as disputes which have gone to litigation. She has spoken on employment matters at the Law Society of Ontario (LSO), Ontario Bar Association (OBA), the Canadian Human Resources Professional Association, and the Waterloo Region Law Association. Over the past several years she has co-chaired the LSO’s popular Annotated Employment Agreement CPD program. She was a contributing author to the Lexis Nexis 2019 publication New Perspectives on Canadian Employment Law. In 2017, she was awarded the OBA Employment Section Randall Echlin Mentorship Award in recognition of her longstanding contributions to the practice of labour and employment law, her high standards of professionalism and her dedication to mentorship of junior counsel.
