As Vice-president and Associate General Counsel, Personal Banking at CIBC, Elizabeth Fanjoy heads the legal team that supports marketing and sponsorship, back-office operations supporting the retail bank, consumer lending, insurance, deposits, cards, payments and more. Fanjoy sits on four of the bank’s internal boards, chairs one of them and is the only lawyer on the executive council. Fanjoy also sits on the Women’s College Hospital Foundation Board of Directors, is Co-chair of the Women General Counsel Canada conference and has acted as a mentor through the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council that pairs skilled new immigrants with established professionals.
Commercial litigator Craig Ferris has been interested throughout his career in ensuring the profession operates according to its ethical obligations and in the interest of its clients. He represented the Canadian Bar Association as an intervenor at the Supreme Court in a successful constitutional challenge to the application of money-laundering laws to lawyers in Canada. Ferris was elected as a Bencher Law Society of BC in 2014, was acclaimed as Second Vice-president for 2018 and will be President in 2020. He has been a UBC trial advocacy instructor and Access Pro Bono volunteer and was inducted as a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America.

Conni Gibson is Associate General Counsel and Managing Director, Head of Legal US Capital Markets, leading a team of lawyers supporting BMO’s US Capital Markets businesses. She has brought a culture shift in productivity by assessing the delivery of legal services by a relatively small team, and shifting the focus to higher-risk/higher-value work while eliminating or providing alternate solutions for low-risk/low-value work. Gibson has led the implementation of a BMO pro bono program in New York, partnering with local law firms to deliver legal services to low-income immigrants at naturalization screening clinics. Gibson co-founded and co-chairs the New York chapter of the employee resource group BMO Women in a Supported Environment.

Jennifer Gray is a Project Management Partner who specializes in matters requiring expertise in project development and execution. She assists in the scoping, planning and management of client projects involving significant legal activity. Gray also provides project management expertise in relation to complex litigation, including regulatory proceedings and commercial arbitrations. She has worked to bring the best technologies and best practices to staff and lawyers at her firm’s regional offices. Gray is also the project manager for Public Services and Procurement Canada in relation to the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy.
A Partner in Miller Thomson LLP’s Commercial Litigation group, Sarah Hansen has expertise in environmental and Aboriginal law. Her outstanding track record of success relative to others in this field is at a notably high level of complexity. She represents clients through environmental assessments both federally and provincially and in contaminated sites litigation. Hansen led the firm’s team working with a First Nation in opposing a proposed copper and gold mine. As a result, the provincial ministers did not grant approval for the mine. Hansen is on the organization committee for the Canadian Bar Association’s National Environmental, Energy and Resource Law Section 2017/2018 Summit.
