On March 22, 2002, Autogrill SpA, the world’s largest provider of food, beverage and retail concessions in the travel industry, and also the world’s largest operator of highway rest area and airport restaurants, completed a major expansion into Canada by the acquisition from Lettuce Serview Limited Partners of 18 motorway travel centres along two major controlled access highways in Ontario, Highway 401 and Highway 400, including 56 food and beverage outlets and four retail locations. In a related transaction, Autogrill also acquired 18 food and beverage outlets at Lester B. Pearson International Airport in Toronto. The combined sales of these outlets exceed $80 million annually.
Both Autogrill and Lettuce Serview were represented by Jon Levin, Claudia Feldkamp and Neil Smiley of Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP in Toronto. Richard Epstein of Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP in Toronto provided non-competition and other advice to Lettuce Serview and its principals.
