On October 31, 2001, Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board successfully completed a landmark transaction when its subsidiary, Ontrea Inc., issued $600 million 5.70 per cent series A debentures by way of a private placement. This is the first issue of debentures guaranteed by the board.
McCarthy Tétrault LLP acted as counsel to the purchasers of the debentures with a team comprised of Barry Ryan, G. Blair Cowper-Smith, Sumit Soni (business), Gordon Sato (real estate), Gregory Winfield (pensions and benefits), Eric Gertner (research) and Gabrielle Richards (tax). The deal syndicate on the transaction was led by TD Securities Inc. and BMO Nesbitt Burns, Inc. McCarthy Tétrault also represented the syndicate in this transaction.
Goodmans LLP acted as counsel to Ontrea with a team consisting of Juli Morrow, Jonathan Lampe, Allan Goodman and Steve Cohen, under the direction of Peter Barbetta, executive vice-president and general counsel of the Cadillac Fairview Corporation, manager of Ontrea.
