Jacob’s practice focuses on electricity sector commercial matters, construction & infrastructure, climate change, and derivatives regulatory and commercial matters. Jacob regularly advises on procurement, development, finance, and M&A matters in respect of electricity generation, transmission, and distribution assets in Canada. He has acted on some of the largest electricity projects and portfolios in Canada, for the Ontario Power Authority and IESO on major procurements, including leading the legal work on the initial version of the renewable energy Feed-in Tariff Program, the IESO’s utility-scale energy storage RFP and NUGs recontracting.
On December 20, 2017, Axium Infrastructure Inc. (Axium), through a special-purpose acquisition vehicle Axium Infinity Solar LP, and TransCanada Energy Ltd. (TransCanada) completed its acquisition of TransCanada’s Ontario solar portfolio, consisting of eight facilities with a total generating capacity of 105 MW (DC). All eight facilities operate under 20-year power purchase agreements with the Independent Electricity System Operator. The aggregate purchase price was approximately $540 million.
