Gail Black’s tax and private client services practice focuses on trusts (business and personal), taxation, estate planning, and administration, and charities and not-for-profit organizations. She advises on wills, family and other personal trusts, enduring powers of attorney, personal directives and other substitute decision-making appointments, tax-effective charitable giving (including the establishment of private foundations), and charities and not-for-profit corporations. She also advises on probate, estate, and trust administration including taxation, will and trust interpretation, trust variation, executor/trustee responsibilities, and beneficiary rights. Her practice includes cross-border planning and administration and as an active practising member of the Alberta and BC bars, she advises on cross-provincial matters. She was appointed King’s Counsel in 2016. She is listed in Lexpert for Estate & Personal Tax Planning and in The Best Lawyers Canada in Trusts and Estates. She is a frequent speaker in her practice area and has been a co-instructor of the wills course for the University of Calgary Law Faculty. She is a past chairwoman of STEP (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) Calgary, and was honoured as the STEP Volunteer of the Year (Calgary) for 2017.
