Deborah is chair of the firm’s national litigation department, member of the firm’s Executive Committee and co-Chair of the international subcommittee on class actions of the ABA. Over the past 16 years, her practice has focused almost exclusively on the defence of class actions and other large aggregate claims, particularly corporate, commercial and banking disputes, product liability and negligence claims. She has had several recent successes in having certification denied in multiple jurisdictions. Her practice is national in scope and she is lead counsel in multijurisdictional cases in virtually every province in the country. Her experience includes acting as national coordinating counsel for a major consumer product company which requires management and coordination of litigation internationally. She has acted on cases which have produced groundbreaking decisions dealing with procedural and evidentiary aspects of certification, acting as coordinating counsel in cross-border cases and providing advice and assistance to corporations seeking to implement measures to avoid class action litigation. She has published numerous articles on class proceedings in both Canada and the US, and has developed and taught advocacy training programs. Admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1990.
