Admitted to Bar 1983 (Ontario). Formerly Crown Counsel, Ministry of the Attorney General, Crown Law Office — Criminal and Executive Legal Officer, Superior Court of Justice. Since 1994, has carried on a diverse litigation practice, including administrative, criminal and regulatory law and commercial litigation. Recognized as a leading practitioner by Lexpert® in the areas of Aboriginal Law, Litigation – Public Law and Professional Liability and by The Best Lawyers in Canada in the areas of administrative and public law and criminal defence. AV preeminent rated by Martindale-Hubbell. Served as commission counsel to the Walkerton Inquiry (2000–2002), Arar Commission (2004–2006) and Air India Inquiry (2006–2010). Lead counsel for the Office of the Chief Coroner at the Inquiry into Pediatric Forensic Pathology in Ontario (2007–2008). Counsel to the nine provincial and territorial superior courts that approved and are tasked with administering the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement, Canada's largest and most complex class action settlement. Extensive teaching experience includes being an Adjunct Professor (Western and Osgoode Hall Law School). Frequent speaker at CLE programs.
