Grant Moffat practises exclusively in the areas of insolvency, restructuring and banking law. He has developed particular expertise in representation of chartered banks and other financial institutions. He frequently acts as independent counsel for court-appointed officers, such as receivers, trustees in bankruptcy and monitors. Grant’s recent significant mandates include acting as representative counsel to investors in Redstone Capital Corporation in connection with a motion to substantively consolidate three related estates; counsel to the DIP Lender in the CCAA proceeding for Wabush Mines; counsel to the senior secured lender and DIP Lender in the CCAA proceeding for Co-Op Atlantic; counsel to the lending syndicate and DIP Lender in the CCAA proceeding for Mady Collier Centre; counsel to the DIP Lender in the CCAA proceeding for U.S. Steel Canada Inc.; counsel to the Chief Restructuring officer in the CCAA proceeding for the Northstar Aerospace group of companies; and counsel to the Monitor in the CCAA proceeding for the Valle Foam group of companies. Grant is a member of the Insolvency Institute of Canada, INSOL International, Turnaround Management Association and the Canadian Insolvency Foundation. He was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1991.
