KPMG has announced the acquisition of the Montréal-based law firm Sweibel Novek Rabbat, LLP (SNR), expanding its legal services in Québec.

Founded in 1994, SNR is renowned for its bespoke services in tax planning, tax litigation, estate planning, and corporate and commercial legal services catered to business clients. This move sees SNR professionals integrating into KPMG Law in Canada, joining over 25 lawyers in Québec and 150 lawyers nationwide.

With this acquisition, KPMG Law said it strengthened its presence in Québec and enhanced its multidisciplinary approach to meeting clients' business needs. Through KPMG's global network, clients gain access to 3,800 lawyers across 143 markets, expanding the firm's capabilities in business law, charitable and not-for-profit law, employment and labour law, estates and trusts, immigration law, tax law, and tax litigation.

Benoit Lacoste Bienvenue, Regional Managing Partner for the Québec region at KPMG in Canada, emphasized the strategic importance of this acquisition. "This represents an important milestone for our growth strategy aimed at providing a unique approach to our clients’ business needs," he stated.

Lacoste Bienvenue also highlighted the relevance of this expansion considering KPMG's Focus Québec survey, which found that 82 percent of Québec companies are accelerating their succession plans, underscoring the need for enhanced services for business families and entrepreneurs.

Sydney Sweibel, founding partner of SNR, expressed enthusiasm about joining KPMG, noting the firm's long-standing, client-focused approach and its commitment to providing personalized, value-added services. "We are thrilled to join forces with KPMG and augment their business, personal and estate planning capabilities," said Sweibel.

KPMG in Québec has over 1,750 professionals and employees in eight locations across the province serving private- and public-sector clients. The firm is established under the laws of Ontario. It is a member of KPMG's global organization of independent member firms affiliated with KPMG International Limited, a private English company limited by guarantee.
