Bell Zinc Corporation has purchased all the assets of Onvia.com, the Canadian subsidiary of the US company by the same name. Bell Zinc Corporation, a sbsidiary of Bell Canada, is a business-to-business portal designed especially for small- and medium-sized businesses. In addition, Bell Zinc licensed the Canadian Onvia.com brand name from the US parent. The purchase date was July 12, 2001, but the amount was undisclosed.
Bell Zinc was represented by Tammy Shulman and John Godber of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP's Montreal office, Doug Copland and Robert Piasentin of the Vancouver office and Brian Keith of the Toronto office regarding privacy law issues, and Catherine Rakushm, in-house counsel for Bell. Onvia.com was represented by Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP. Kevin Price and Anne Hamilton from the firm's Vancouver office worked with Leonard Brody, Vice-President, Corporate Development and General Counsel (Canada) and Andrew Munn (US), in-house counsel for Onvia.com.
