Sun Life Financial Services of Canada Inc. completed a public offering on October 4, 2001 in Canada and the U.S. of 11 million common shares raising $330 million. The proceeds of the offering were used to finance in part the acquisition in the U.S. of Keyport Life Insurance Inc. and Independent Financial Marketing Group, Inc.
Legal arrangements were led by William Minucci and Natalie Ochrym, in-house counsel at Sun Life. Torys LLP acted as external counsel to Sun Life, with a team that included Phil Mohtadi, Matt Cockburn, Paul Guthrie, Karen Burke and Lucia ten Kortenaar and Ron Nobrega (tax). U.S. counsel for Sun Life was LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae, LLP, represented by Stephen Rooney, Matt Ricciardi and Ken Alston.
