National Ballet Sues NOW Magazine

The National Ballet and its Artistic Director, James Kudelka, have commenced a libel action against the publisher of Now Magazine, its editor/publisher (Michael Hollet), its CEO and editor (Alice Klein), and two senior marketing executives of the Company. Also named as defendants are William Hechter, a lawyer in Toronto, and “J. Doe 1 and J. Doe 2”, two unknown persons. The action seeks $1 million in damages.

Counsel for the plaintiffs are William C. McDowell and Linda Shin of McCarthy Tétrault. Now Magazine and its employees are being represented by John R. Ward of Black, Sutherland, Crabbe. Mr. Hechter is representing himself.
