Marks & Clerk welcomes three senior hires, including new managing partner

Marks & Clerk, an international intellectual property group, has announced the appointment of three new senior lawyers at Marks & Clerk Canada’s office in Ottawa, effective Aug. 1

Marks & Clerk, an international intellectual property group, has announced the appointment of three new senior lawyers at Marks & Clerk office in Toronto, effective Aug. 1.

Jonathan Colombo is the new managing partner at Marks & Clerk Canada. He has advised numerous national and international companies regarding their trademark, copyright and advertising disputes. 

Colombo previously worked at Bereskin & Parr LLP (B&P), where he served as managing partner and as co-leader of its trademarks practice group. He has been a member of International Trademark Association committees and of the Canadian Trademark Agents Board of Examiners. He has also taught trademark law at McGill University.

Catherine (Cat) Lovrics will join the firm’s trademark team and will head its copyright and digital groups. She centres her practice on copyright and trademark strategy.

Lovrics formerly led B&P’s copyright and digital media group and co-led its privacy, cybersecurity and data protection practice group. She has served as vice-chairperson of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada’s copyright committee and as trustee of the Copyright Society of the USA.

Amrita V. Singh has experience in all areas of intellectual property litigation and has acted on behalf of clients from numerous industries such as leisure, hospitality, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, architectural and construction. 

Singh is vice-chairperson of the Ontario Bar Association’s information technology and intellectual property section executive and of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada’s litigation committee. She is also an elected member of the Canadian Bar Association’s intellectual property section executive, as well as a member of the Federal Courts Users Committee.
