Colin Burn is a partner in the Mergers & Acquisitions, Capital Markets, Securities and Mining Groups at Stikeman Elliott LLP in Toronto. His practice is primarily focused on corporate and securities law, with an emphasis on M&A, corporate finance, private equity, and stream and royalty finance, as well as corporate governance matters. He has extensive experience advising foreign and domestic clients, including private equity and other financial sponsors, in public and private merger and acquisition transactions. He also regularly represents issuers and underwriters in debt and equity offerings. In less than a decade of practicing law, Colin has quarterbacked some of Canada’s most high profile and complex IPO and equity capital markets deals. His industry experience includes mining, real estate, energy and infrastructure, technology, pharmaceutical, financial services and consumer goods.
Colin is a frequent presenter to the firm’s securities practice and a regular contributor to the firm’s securities blog articles and in industry leading publications, such as Chambers. He was recently involved in designing the relaunch of the firm’s Toronto office’s junior securities practice group, which focuses on the development of the firm’s students and associates in securities laws matters.
Because of his reputation for technical expertise, his pipeline of complex transactions and contributions to the firm’s professional development initiatives, Colin is a sought-after mentor to the firm’s summer students, articling students and associates. He is a member of the firm’s Toronto Office Students Committee and regularly leads large teams of students and associates.
