Anooraq Resources Acquires Controlling Interest in Mine from Anglo Platinum

On July 1, 2009, Anooraq Resources Corporation acquired an effective 51 per cent interest in the Lebowa Platinum Mine from Anglo Platinum Limited for $400 million. The transaction has been implemented in accordance with the terms and conditions of the agreements entered into between, inter alia, Anooraq and Anglo Platinum. The transaction was approved by regulatory authorities and was subject to shareholders approvals.

Anooraq was represented by Roger Taplin, Michael Urbani, Xenia Kritsos, Samuel Adkins and Genevieve Pinto of McCarthy T├ętrault LLP (Vancouver) in Canada and by Ian Hayes, David Pinnock and Verushca Pillay of Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr in South Africa.

Anglo Platinum was represented by Webber Wentzel, with a team led by Jon Forman that included Renee Kruger and Kathy Shepherd.

Standard Chartered Bank was represented by a team led by Lionel Shawe of Deneys Reitz.
