LG Energy, Stellantis joint venture to establish vehicle battery manufacturing plant

Venture marks the largest single automotive investment in Canadian history

Stikeman Elliott is acting for LG Energy Solution, as Canadian counsel, in its approximately $5 billion (US$4.1 billion) joint venture with Stellantis N.V. to establish Canada’s first large-scale, domestic vehicle battery manufacturing facility. The joint venture entity will produce leading edge lithium-ion battery cells and modules to meet a significant portion of Stellantis’ vehicle production requirements in North America. Operations will include an all-new battery manufacturing plant located in Windsor, Ontario. The plant is the largest single automotive investment in Canadian history and will play a major role in Canada's electric vehicle renaissance.
