Rogers Cable Enters VoIP Telephony Market with Nortel Technology Platform

On February 23, 2005, Rogers Cable Communications Inc. and Nortel Networks Ltd. announced Rogers’ acquisition and support of Nortel’s softswitch technology platform. This component of VoIP telephony systems will support Rogers’ delivery of digital phone services and other new voice and data services across its service areas of Ontario, New Brunswick and Newfoundland. Rogers plans to launch this key strategic initiative in mid-2005. The value of the agreement has not been disclosed.

Rogers was represented by Torys LLP, under the direction of Jennifer Warren, vice-president, assistant general counsel of Rogers Communications Inc., with a team that included Wendy Gross and Ian Cooper.

Nortel Networks was represented in-house by Alison Stevenson-Lee, senior counsel.
