Tata Chemicals Acquires Shares of General Chemical Industrial Products Inc.

Tata Chemicals Limited, part of the TATA group and India's leading manufacturer of inorganic chemicals, fertilizers and food additives, acquired the shares of General Chemical Industrial Products Inc., a US-based chemical company, for slightly in excess of $1 billion. This acquisition makes Tata Chemicals Limited one of the largest soda ash producers in the world. Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP acted as Canadian counsel to Tata Chemicals Limited, which was represented in most of the principal jurisdictions of the transaction by Hogan & Hartson.
