Shawn Munro is co-head of Bennett Jones' Environmental Law Practice Group and past co-head of its Aboriginal Law Practice Group. With over 20 years of experience in regulatory, environmental and Aboriginal Law proceedings in Alberta, British Columbia and across Canada, Shawn advises on major energy developments including conventional oil and gas, oil sands, heavy oil, sour gas, coalbed methane and shale plays, as well as liquefied natural gas projects, pipelines for gas, oil, liquids and carbon dioxide, power transmission lines, power generation projects and waste management facilities. Shawn acts on production disputes such as common carrier, processor and rateable take, gas/bitumen and gas/coal. Shawn advises project proponents respecting First Nations and Métis issues (consultation, agreements, access and compensation) on traditional lands, reserves and settlements. Shawn represents clients at various tribunals, including the Alberta Energy Regulator, Alberta Utilities Commission, Environmental Appeals Board, Natural Resources Conservation Board, Surface Rights Board, Métis Settlements Appeals Tribunal, the National Energy Board and Pipeline Arbitration Committees, as well as the British Columbia Oil and Gas Commission, Surface Rights Board and Utilities Commission.
