Karen Sargeant’s general employment and labour law practice is focused on acting on behalf of large and small employers in both the private and public sectors. The breadth of Karen’s practice extends to employment contracts, wrongful dismissals, departing employee litigation, human rights, employment standards, union relations, labour arbitrations, workplace safety and insurance and disability management. She provides day-to-day advice to employers in relation to both non-union and unionized workplaces. She frequently represents employers before courts, boards of arbitration and various administrative tribunals such as the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, Ontario Labour Relations Board, Ministry of Labour Employment Practices Branch and Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal. Karen is a regular speaker at conferences and to groups of management employees on a variety of employment and labour matters. She also is a regular contributor to a number of legal publications. Karen was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1996 and the Ontario Bar in 1997.
