Lorne Segal is a partner in the Ottawa office of Gowling WLG. He practises in the areas of M&A, restructuring & insolvency, private equity, financial services and corporate commercial. He combines strong technical skills with a practical approach and sound business judgment. He represents private and public companies, from owner-operated to larger multi-nationals, acting for buyers and sellers in all sectors including defence, aviation, telecom, tech, retail, manufacturing, mining, distribution, pharma, textiles, telemarketing and financial services, with a substantial cross-border focus. He represents domestic and foreign banks, insurance companies, private equity and venture capitalists in mid-market and larger transactions. He has expertise in bankruptcy and restructuring, representing creditors, debtors and trustees/receivers, in the insolvencies of Carillion, Nortel, Air Canada, Ivaco, 360 networks, Teleglobe, AT&T Canada, Eaton’s, Royal Oak, the Ottawa Senators and SkyDome. Lorne completed a four-year term as Gowlings’ Firm Managing Partner, Internal and member of the Firm’s Executive Committee. He previously served on the Firm’s Board of Trustees. In his management role, Lorne led the deal that created Gowling WLG, combining Gowlings with UK-based Wragge Lawrence Graham.
