John Doolan is a partner in Miller Thomson's Vancouver office and co-lead of the firm’s Aboriginal Law Group. Has extensive experience in commercial real estate and Aboriginal law matters. Practice includes advising on major projects & financings, infrastructure development, structuring transactions, acquisitions & dispositions, partnerships & joint ventures, real estate development and leasing. Aboriginal law experience includes leases and other tenures on First Nation land, and wide variety of commercial agreements and financings involving First Nations. Represents both business enterprises and First Nation Groups on economic development matters. Has written on “Real Estate Transactions With First Nations in Canada”, “Development on First Nations Lands” and “Financing On-Reserve Developments”. Works successfully with all levels of government on wide range of matters and presently represents First Nations Tax Commission on its federal Indigenous Land Title Initiative. Recent work includes acting for Tsawwassen First Nation on real estate and economic development projects, including Tsawwassen Mills shopping centre and acting for a joint venture between a national real estate developer and a First Nation in Alberta in the master planned development of 1,200 acres of reserve land.
