Richard J. Charney practises management labour relations and employment law. He is global head of Norton Rose Fulbright's employment and labour practice. He acts for various employers and employers’ organizations and appears at provincial and federal labour relations boards and the courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada, and before rights and interest labour arbitration tribunals. He advises on all matters of employment law and legislative reform. His practice also involves collective bargaining on behalf of employers, employment standards, human rights, wrongful dismissal, workplace health & safety and constitutional law. Mr. Charney is particularly active as an advocate before labour tribunals such as the Canada Industrial Relations Board and the Ontario Labour Relations Board and in judicial review challenges to tribunal determinations in the federal and provincial superior and appellate courts. He is an advocate, negotiator and advisor in a variety of economic sectors, including the Ontario construction, electrical power and media industries, and is labour counsel to a variety of well-known arts and cultural organizations. He is co-author of the legal text, Judicial Review in Labour Law, and formerly an Adjunct Professor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law.
