Matthew Zischka is a partner and co-leads the patent practice in Smart & Biggar's Toronto office. Matthew has over 20 years’ experience, preparing and prosecuting patent applications in the electrical, software, electronics, mechanical, and medical device fields, around the world. Additionally, he counsels clients in a diverse range of IP issues, including assertions of patent infringement; IP strategy; due diligence; licensing and copyright and design matters. He is a regular lecturer and former course Director for the McGill/IPIC Patents Course, and a formerly taught at Queen’s University. He has been named one of Canada’s leading 500 lawyers by Lexpert®, and is one of seven ”highly recommended” patent practitioners in Canada in IAM Patent 1000 Magazine. Matthew is also listed in The Best Lawyers in Canada, and Managing Intellectual Property’s IP Stars Handbook. He is active with IPIC and AIPLA, and is a member of AIPPI Canada council.
