David McCarthy is counsel in the corporate group. His practice focuses on corporate and commercial areas, with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions. A seasoned lawyer with over 30 years of experience, he has been involved both in Canada and internationally, in acquisitions and dispositions, corporate reorganizations, the preparation and negotiation of agreements for the sale of goods and services, shareholder matters, and other commercial contracts. He is sought out for his extensive experience advising companies, their boards of directors, and shareholders on complex corporate governance matters. He has counselled domestic and multinational corporations in a variety of industries including food processing, financial services, transportation, manufacturing, and distribution. More recently, he has acted for companies involved in fields as varied as retailing, gaming, internet-related activities, mining, and waste collection, and has advised clients with entertainment and sports law matters. He previously served on the partnership board from 2018–21 and on the management committee from 2002–08. He was head of the corporate department in the Toronto office from 2003–14 and head of the Toronto office finance committee from 2014–16.
