Alyssa Tomkins is a bilingual partner in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office. She is a member of the Advocacy Group and her practice focuses on public law and corporate/commercial litigation and arbitration, as well as appeals and judicial reviews. Alyssa has argued cases as lead counsel at all levels of court in Ontario, in the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal, in the British Columbia Supreme Court and Court of Appeal, and in the Supreme Court of Canada. Alyssa was lead counsel for the Law Society of Saskatchewan in its successful appeal to the Supreme Court in Law Society of Saskatchewan v. Abrametz and also recently acted as co-lead counsel for the City of Ottawa in the Public Order Emergencies Commission (Emergencies Act inquiry). Alyssa clerked for the Honourable Michel Bastarache at the Supreme Court of Canada in 2007–2008. She has been recognized in both The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and The Best Lawyers in Canada and was named a Benchmark Litigation Canada Future Star in 2020–2022.
