Andrea Akelaitis advises and represents clients on a broad range of environmental and regulatory matters. A founding partner of Letcher Akelaitis LLP, she has appeared before all levels of British Columbia courts and is also called to the Alberta bar. Ms. Akelaitis has extensive experience in complex, multi-party contaminated sites matters, acting through litigation and alternative dispute resolution. She has acted as counsel in significant contaminated sites proceedings in British Columbia and Alberta, including matters involving brownfield redevelopment, human health risk assessment, and environmental compliance. Her practice includes environmental permitting and compliance, environmental assessment and regulatory litigation, and defending environmental prosecutions. She has acted for leading Canadian corporations and for the Nisga’a Nation in matters involving environmental and Aboriginal law. A recognized leader in air quality, odour management, and recycling and waste management regulation, Ms. Akelaitis regularly speaks and writes on environmental law and has served two terms on the board of the Contaminated Sites Approved Professional Society. She also has commercial litigation experience, including directors’ and officers’ liability and product liability matters.
