Brian Cohen is a partner in Gowling WLG’s Toronto office. Co-leader of the firm’s National Private Client Services Group and a lawyer in the firm’s global Private Client Services Group, he assists clients in the areas of estate planning, trusts, and personal taxation, in particular, advising high-net-worth individuals on succession planning alternatives. Brian also advises donors, charitable organizations, public and private foundations, and not-for-profit organizations regarding the tax implications of formation, registration, governance, and planned giving strategies. In addition, Brian frequently advises on estate litigation matters. Brian has presented and prepared papers for the STEP Annual Conference and continuing education sessions, the Ontario Bar Association, the Law Society of Ontario, ILCO, Federated Press, the Canadian Private Family Office Invitational, and the Registered Deposit Broker Association Newsletters. Brian was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1999 after obtaining his LLB at Osgoode Hall Law School. He has been recognized in Chambers High Net Worth Guide, The Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory, and The Best Lawyers in Canada. He was named an Acritas Star in 2017, 2018, and 2019.
