Doak Horne LLB, PEng, is a partner in Gowling WLG's Calgary IP Group focusing on intellectual property litigation for 30+ years. Doak has successfully litigated as leading counsel numerous actions before all levels of Federal and various provincial Courts involving patent infringement, impeachment and ownership, trademark infringement, expungements, oppositions, copyright infringement, trade secret litigation and passing off actions. A registered patent and trademark agent in both Canada and the US, Doak is also involved in the preparation, filing, and prosecution of patent, trademark, and industrial design applications for clients in Canada and the US and has successfully prepared, filed, and obtained hundreds of issued patents and trademarks for clients in many technical fields. Doak also provides clearance-to-use/freedom-to-operate and patent validity opinions, as well as drafting of licenses and related contractual agreements. Prior to his legal career, he worked as a mechanical engineer in jet engine design and obtained his professional engineer designation.
