Darren Taylor is a partner in Gowling WLG's Calgary office practising commercial real estate and business law. Having worked in commercial real estate law for two decades, Darren has significant experience in a variety of real estate transactions including: acquisitions and dispositions; due diligence; financing; leasing; property development and joint ventures and co-ownerships. He has extensive experience representing both lenders and borrowers in financing transactions having acted on behalf of large institutional lenders as well as small private lenders. These financings have been made with respect to a variety of properties and portfolios of properties. Most of Darren’s work has been for property owners and as a result, he is well-versed in the borrower side of transactions. A significant amount of his practice also involves commercial leasing in which he acts for both landlords and tenants. In addition to real estate matters, Darren advises clients on general business transactions, including acquisitions and dispositions of businesses and structuring business transactions. Recognized in The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, Darren was awarded the Best Lawyers 2022 and 2024 Commercial Leasing "Lawyer of the Year" and the 2026 Real Estate “Lawyer of the Year” in Calgary.
