David acts for both public and private sector clients in relation to all aspects of employment, labour relations and human rights law. This includes advising on, drafting and negotiating contracts of employment and independent contractor agreements, collective agreements, policies and other materials relating to terms and conditions of employment, with a particular emphasis on issues relating to the employment of senior executives. David also regularly represents employers in employment and labour related disputes including before labour arbitrators, human rights tribunals, the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Tribunal, the courts and other administrative tribunals. David is highly regarded for his ability to analyze and respond to complex legal arguments in defending clients against claims, and for his pragmatic approach to resolving issues taking into account the commercial context. Prior to joining Harris in 2014, David practised at a major multi-national law firm in Canberra, Australia, acting predominantly for public sector clients in relation to employment and labour matters. In 2007, David received the University Medal in Law, the highest academic honour bestowed by the Australian National University. David is qualified to practice law in both Canada and Australia.
