Deborah Berlach is an experienced trial and appellate lawyer who defends complex professional liability claims. Defending medical malpractice actions on behalf of hospitals, nurses, medical clinics and other allied health professionals represents a significant portion of her robust trial experience. She was one of the founding partners of Stieber Berlach LLP, a litigation firm recognized by Canadian Lawyer as a Top Insurance Defence Boutique firm, and recognized by Best Lawyers as Best Law Firm in Insurance Law. She has been recognized by Best Lawyers in Corporate and Commercial Litigation and Insurance Law. A graduate of McGill Law School, she was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1984 and has practised continuously. From early on in her career she has maintained an insurance-based practice which includes litigating health care and other professional liability claims, providing risk management advice, and defending class actions. In 2023, she was the proud recipient of the Ontario Bar Association Award of Excellence in Insurance Law.
