Donald Dow is a senior partner in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office and former leader of the firm’s national Medical Defence Practice Group. Donald practises primarily in the areas of medical malpractice (defence), professional liability, health law, privacy and professional disciplinary proceedings. He has extensive trial experience and has conducted numerous professional disciplinary hearings. Highly regarded by his peers, Donald has been annually recognized in The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, The Best Lawyers in Canada and Chambers Canada. In 2015, 2018 and 2019 he was recognized by The Best Lawyers in Canada as "Lawyer of the Year for Medical Negligence – Ottawa” and in 2022, he was recognized by Best Lawyers Canada as “Lawyer of the Year for Professional Malpractice Law – Ottawa". In 2026 he was recognized as “Lawyer of the Year for Health Care Law – Ottawa”. He has been inducted into the fellowship of Litigation Counsel of America and is involved in both legal and medical continuing education on issues related to health law, medical malpractice and professional liability. He is a member of The Holland Access to Justice in Medical Malpractice Group which is composed of senior counsel who act for plaintiffs and defendants in complex medical malpractice cases.
