Dorothy Charach

Dorothy Charach is a partner in McCarthy Tétrault LLP’s Litigation Group in Toronto and Co-Leader of their National Health Industry Group. Her practice includes commercial litigation, professional liability, product liability, class actions, and defamation. Dorothy has appeared before all levels of court in Ontario, the Supreme Court of British Columbia, the Saskatchewan Court of King’s Bench, and the Supreme Court of Canada. She has significant trial experience, including acting for physicians in several professional liability cases tried by jury and by judge alone. She has also acted as appellate counsel on multiple medical negligence cases, including most recently at the Supreme Court of Canada. She frequently acts for defendants in class action matters, including pharmaceutical and medical device companies, food and beverage companies, and financial institutions. Dorothy also teaches medical malpractice at Queen’s University Faculty of Law and Trial Advocacy at Osgoode Hall Law School and regularly guest lectures at the University of Toronto and Osgoode Hall Professional Development programs in the area of medical negligence. She is a graduate of Western University (BA Hons) and Osgoode Hall Law School (JD) and was called to the Ontario bar in 2012.
