Duncan Reid is a US and Canadian cross-border lawyer with broad experience advising on strategic matters of critical importance to his clients. He has acted on significant matters across a wide range of industries, including technology, forestry, energy, mining, hospitality, and commercial real estate. His practice focuses on Canadian and international M&A transactions, with an emphasis on cross-border US matters for Canadian clients. For 20+ years, Duncan has advised on transactions involving clients and counterparties in more than 25 countries and over 40 US states. He has advised buyers, sellers, and investors on the acquisition and development of high-profile hotel projects in Canada and the US Duncan also advises the British Columbia forest industry on the Canada–US softwood lumber dispute and has advised several First Nations on major Canadian clean energy projects. Before joining FARRIS in 2012, Duncan was an Executive Director and Senior Counsel at Goldman Sachs in London and Hong Kong, and previously practised at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP in New York and London. He is active in community leadership, including serving as Co-Chair of McGill’s Canadian Advisory Board, Chair of the Whistler Mountain Ski Club, and a Director of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation.
