François Baril is a partner in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office. His practice focuses on litigation with an emphasis on health law, including acting as counsel to the Canadian Medical Protective Association. He regularly advises on issues of professional liability and discipline and regulatory issues. François also advises both foreign and Canadian clients on all aspects of competition law, including merger clearance, distribution issues, pricing issues, investigations and enforcement actions. He has appeared before a number of courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Tax Court of Canada, all levels of Ontario courts and the Yukon and the Northwest Territories Courts of Appeal. He has also appeared before a number of federal and provincial administrative tribunals, coroner’s inquests and military boards of inquiry.François is a part-time Professor at the University of Ottawa where he teaches competition law and lectures on trial advocacy. François practises in both official languages. He is a past president of the AJEFO. He has been recognized in Chambers Canada, The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and Benchmark Canada. François received the Best Lawyers 2022 Medical Negligence “Lawyer of the Year” award in Ottawa.
