Guy is recognized as a leading litigation counsel in Canada. Guy is one of only a handful of litigators in Canada to be admitted as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and the American College of Trial Lawyers. He is a member of the Quebec, Ontario and BC bars, and has received Lawyer Emeritus Distinction from the Barreau du Québec; the Order of Merit from University of Ottawa; the Tax Court of Canada Medal for outstanding services to the Court; and Benchmark Canada’s Hall of Fame Award. Guy practises complex, high-stakes litigation involving a wide range of areas and has appeared at all levels of trial/appellate courts in Canada, including Tax Court of Canada, both levels of Federal Court and Supreme Court of Canada, in a number of leading cases, in a wide range of practice fields, including taxation, class actions, competition, white-collar and constitutional law. As lead counsel, he successfully argued BCE Inc.’s appeal before the Supreme Court with respect to a $52-billion takeover by Teachers’ Consortium, the most important commercial case in Canada.
