Guy is repeatedly recognized as one of Canada’s leading litigation counsels. Fellow, American College of Trial Lawyers; elected member, American Law Institute (one of very few Canadians to earn this honour since 1923); Lawyer Emeritus Distinction (Barreau du Québec); Order of Merit from University of Ottawa; recipient of the Tax Court of Canada Medal for outstanding services to the Court and Benchmark Canada’s Hall of Fame Award. Practises complex, high-stake litigation involving a wide range of areas and has appeared at all levels of trial/appellate courts in Canada, including the Tax Court of Canada, Federal Court, Federal Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court of Canada, in a number of leading cases, in a wide range of practice fields, including taxation, class actions, competition, white-collar, and constitutional law. As lead counsel, successfully argued BCE Inc.’s appeal before the Supreme Court relating to the $52 billion takeover by Teachers’ Consortium, the most important commercial case in Canada.
