Herbert (Herb) Ono is a US-qualified capital markets and securities lawyer with deep experience in cross-border corporate finance. He advises clients across the mining and cannabis industries, helping them navigate the complex regulatory requirements of both Canadian and US securities regimes. Herb’s practice includes negotiating and completing mergers and acquisitions, corporate spin-offs and a wide array of public and private financings. He regularly counsels publicly listed companies on corporate governance, Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliance and securities filings, as well as stock exchange listings on both sides of the border. Before joining McMillan, Herb spent two years in Tokyo with the law firm now known as Nagashima, Ohno & Tsunematsu. As a foreign lawyer on secondment from a national Canadian law firm, he advised on international commercial matters, including US–Japan joint ventures and cross-border business structures. Herb now plays a lead role in McMillan’s Japan-focused initiatives, supporting clients engaged in Canada–Japan investment and transactional activities.
