Jonathan Schachter is a lawyer at Waddell Phillips PC. His practice focuses on class proceedings (primarily on the plaintiffs’ side) and complex multi-party litigation. He has a keen interest in consumer protection, LGBTQ2+ rights, privacy, and holding public authorities to account. Jonathan has considerable experience in professional regulation, including acting as external counsel for the Law Society of Ontario, and as preferred counsel for LawPRO. He applies his strong sense of justice and practical approach to the law to protect society’s most vulnerable people. In class actions, Jonathan’s experience includes over forty antitrust claims relating to price fixing in the automotive industry, a prominent consumer-protection class action relating to illegal gift card fees, a landmark claim on behalf of First Nations Bands for their loss of language and culture, and the Federal Court’s first ever common issues class action trial. Jonathan is a member of the Ontario Class Action Bench-Bar Liaison Committee, and has held various leadership positions on OBA’s Class Actions Section executive, including as Co-Chair of the 15th Class Actions Colloquium (2023). He has also sat on the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Community Sections of the OBA and CBA.
