Lauren is a partner in Torkin Manes' Not-for-Profit & Charities Group and a trusted advisor to a broad range of charities, non-profits, and social enterprises. She provides practical guidance on director and membership disputes, tax audits, mergers, investigations, directors’ and officers’ liability, governance, charitable registration, fundraising, gifting, compliance, and risk management. Lauren has significant experience assisting registered charities operating internationally, supporting them with legal and regulatory matters and structuring relationships with partner organizations. She serves clients in a broad range of sectors, including health and long-term care, religion, education and research, sports and recreation, social services, and industry and professional associations and unions. She frequently speaks at the Canadian and Ontario Bar Associations on charity and non-profit law topics, and volunteers significant time to help outreach organizations on legal and non-legal issues, including Lawyers Feed the Hungry, Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund, and Metropolitan Action Committee on Violence Against Women and Children (METRAC). Lauren is a proud member of the board of directors of Hand Up Toronto, a charity working to combat food insecurity in Greater Toronto.
