Laurent Massam is a partner in Gowling WLG's Toronto office and the Canadian leader of the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation & Strategy Group. Laurent has 15 years of experience as a litigator and strategic advisor in respect of all forms of IP disputes and complex commercial litigation. He has appeared as counsel in patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret, and commercial disputes, regularly representing clients before the Federal Courts, the Copyright Board of Canada, as well as the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. Laurent also regularly acts for clients involved in disputes concerning advertising and marketing matters. In addition to his litigation work, Laurent is regularly relied upon by his domestic and international clients to provide strategic advice and lead them through complex mediations and other forms of negotiation. Laurent is an editor of Gowling WLG’s IP Report. He is on the executive board of the Toronto Anti-Racism Action Committee and also the Head of the firm’s Pro BonoProgam. In 2019, Laurent was named a Lexpert Zenith Award winner in recognition of his leadership of that program. In 2016, Laurent was named one of Lexpert's Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40 and, in 2020, he was named a Copyright Star in Managing IP’s IP Stars.
