Lyndsay Wasser leads McMillan LLP’s Data Management Group nationally. She provides strategic support to clients on a wide range of privacy matters, including advising on data security, employee privacy, handling sensitive information (e.g., health information, biometrics & demographic data), webscraping, surveillance and transferring personal information across borders. She helps organizations conduct PIAs and develop privacy compliance programs, including privacy policies, procedures and consent strategies. Lyndsay drafts and negotiates privacy and data protection terms in a variety of contracts. She advises clients on data breach prevention and response, including risk assessments and reporting strategies. Lyndsay regularly writes and speaks on privacy topics, including co-authoring Privacy in the Workplace, 4th ed., & Canadian chapters in the International Comparative Legal Guides on Cybersecurity (2020/2021) & Data Protection (2021/2022). She’s been recognized by Best Lawyers in Canada in Privacy and Data Security Law (2022/2023), as a Mondaq Thought Leader for Data Protection, Canada (2021), & by Thomson Reuters Stand-Out Lawyers (2021/2022). On October 28, 2015, Canada Ltd., a subsidiary of The Match Group, completed its previously-announced acquisition of Canadian online dating service Plentyoffish Media Inc. (POF) for US$575 million in cash. The Match Group, which already owns, OkCupid and Tinder and has filed its IPO on the NASDAQ, now adds POF, the largest free online dating site in the world, to its portfolio. Match is a wholly-owned subsidiary of US media and internet giant IAC/InterActiveCorp.
