Martha Savoy is chair of Gowling WLG's Canadian Intellectual Property Department and co-leader of its global Intellectual Property Group. Based in Ottawa, she focuses her practice on trademark and copyright litigation, enforcement and prosecution. Martha helps some of the world’s most valuable brands protect and enforce their IP assets around the globe. She has an extensive track record in the food & beverage, sporting equipment, apparel & footwear, technology, manufacturing and media sectors. Martha harnesses more than two decades of experience in negotiating and formalizing protections for her clients' IP assets. Over the course of her career, she has represented clients in a range of complex matters before the Federal Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Canadian Trademarks Opposition Board. She regularly registers trademarks and copyright with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office on behalf of her clients and has experience managing large global trademark portfolios. She has been recognized in the World Trademark Review 1000, The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and The Best Lawyers in Canada and namedin the World Trademark Global Leaders and the Legal 500 Canada 2023, 2024, 2005 and 2026 Halls of Fame.
