Mary Buttery, QC specializes in the area of commercial insolvency and is an experienced commercial litigator. She has been involved in numerous significant insolvency files across Canada and is recognized nationally for her work. Mary represents private and public companies, financial institutions, debtors, and insolvency professionals debt restructuring, corporate reorganizations, loan workouts, fraudulent preference actions, bankruptcies, and receiverships. Mary has expertise in Aboriginal litigation matters, class actions, and business litigation matters (including foreign judgments and fraud) across the country and at all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada. Mary has extensive experience in many different sectors, most notably mining, retail, real estate, forestry, and natural resources. Mary has previously been an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of British Columbia. She is recognized by several leading legal directories including Chambers Canada, Chambers Global, The Best Lawyers in Canada, Benchmark Canada, and Martindale-Hubbell, and was the winner of a Lexpert Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40 Award and a 2013 Lexpert Zenith Award celebrating women leaders.
