Matthew (Matt) Ghikas, FCIArb, leads Fasken’s Global Energy Group in the BC Region. He is a senior energy and regulatory litigator. Matt represents clients before regulators in BC, Alberta and Manitoba, in the courts, and in arbitrations and mediations. Matt represents a range of clients in the utility, pipeline, transportation and insurance industries, including the largest natural gas utility in BC, both large electric utilities in BC, electric transmission companies, a LNG facility owner, Manitoba’s electric utility, a refinery and owner of retail gas stations, the providers of regulated compulsory automobile insurance in BC and Manitoba, and a provider of regulated ferry services. Matt advises on rate-related applications and capital project permitting and approvals. He offers practical day-to-day advice, a collaborative style and deep expertise in regulated businesses and the energy industry. Matt has experience and qualifications in domestic and international arbitration, including being a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb), and being a roster arbitrator for the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR). The Canadian Transportation Agency has included Matt on its arbitrator roster for determining rail disputes and final offer arbitrations.
